– Abby’s House –

Well today I went to Abby E.’s home, and Allison N. and I car pooled.

I needed gas, and Allison told me that she was going to need to be home by 4:30PM. I said that this was okay, so we went before Abby’s to get gas from Thortons. Good times.

We made it to Abby’s okay, and after awhile of chatting with Abby’s relatives (there were a LOT of relatives there), we got on the subject of computers. Eventually Kristin and Marc showed up, and by that time I was on Abby’s computer trying to figure out what went wrong.

I LOVE working with computers (Please just say it again, I KNOW I’m a geek!), so therefore it was REALLY no problem working with Abby’s. Rabbit (Abby’s Dad — His real name is Ken)…said that they had a BIG virus that “wiped out there entire computer”. Well we all know how that goes sometimes. Sometimes grown-ups get confused about what was going on, and although he is a pretty down-to-earth sort of guy, I’m sure he didn’t know what was going on with the virus.

Unfortunately he had already re-started his computer (Formatting it again) with his old ME version of Windows. Wow. ME, you know, Millenium Edition? I mean I’m not saying that that version is BAD or anything…but the ratings on it are REALLY low and wow…Yeah.

Abby also got a laptop for her graduation/birthday/Christmas (Kind of reminds me of ME — Except her’s is cooler)…and therefore I was looking and cleaning up that. Wow she had a lot of corrupted files. I never told her that because she probably doesn’t know what those are, but I DID explain to her that she had a few viruses in her Temporary Files, and that she DID understand. :-)

What was a bit annoying about going to Abby’s party and fixing her computer was her family being in the room. I mean I’m not saying that they are bad (They are actually REALLY cool). But I mean I’m not a really good teacher and they were asking me questions like I was teaching a class or something. I mean I was able to answer them but sometimes I got uptight about it because I couldn’t understand what they were trying to say or something. I don’t know maybe it is just me. One of Abby’s relatives, I don’t know his name…kept on trying to surprise me with his knowledge. I mean I should have expected it, because normally I try not to let everyone know that I like computers and that I actually ENJOY fixing them (I’m a nerd, remember?), but it was kind of annoying how he kept springing weird questions about works and how he couldn’t find the “Show All Button” in Word 2000 and how “That was just annoying” and I was like:

“WHAT?!” and he said

“You know, the button where it tells me indents and spaces and stuff. I mean I just got so fustrated because Word 2000 doesn’t have that!”

I mean he is a great guy and everything, but he thought that it was incredibly awesome that he knew something that I didn’t so he kept on describing how much better Works is because it actually shows things like paragraph and the formatting of the body and stuff like that. My answer:

“Well you see, Word 2000 DOES have that. It is a convenient button that is labeled like a ‘P’ for your convenience because it can show AND hide those sorts of things in the click of one button” He just stared at me for a minute as if I had six heads on my shoulders. His wife (who was REALLY nice, and at least I THOUGHT it was his wife) started smiling like she was straining from saying something.

So yeah — That is pretty much how my entire night went. And they guy didn’t leave for a WHILE…so therefore I had to endure much of his “Springing Questions”. Sometimes it was annoying, but most of the time I guess it was okay because I was able to answer his questions.

Anyways as for her computer –

I had to run Allison home at 4:30PM but I REALLY wanted to come back and finish the job, you know? So I stopped by my house and picked up Windows XP Home and Word 2000, and brought it to them. I started to install it, and everything went well and I installed their internet (They have DSL), but unfortunately after I installed McAfee, they got a VIRUS!

I was SO upset! And the worst part is that the virus is integrated into their computer!!! Ahhhh!!! I created a “Rescue Disk” by McAfee, and left it running at their home. I told Abby to CALL ME as SOON as it got done, but I’m sure she forgot, or it is possible that it isn’t done yet, but oh well.

I will be visiting there tomorrow to finish up the job. :-)
