At College
Well, it is official.
I am at college.
ISU (Illinois State University) really isn’t that bad, once you get used to getting lost every 3 seconds the first few days. Then you get the natural whipping-out-the-map sequence while trying to balance the precarious box of books on one leg.
Nothing short of a circus act mind you.
I’ve been here for approximately 5 days now and I must say I’m impressed at my own ability to retain information on the subject matter of where certain deals are at certain times during the day in certain buildings. What I mean by this is someone will say “Hey! There’s a really good deal going down at the Alamo where the calcs are 15 percent less than the BSC’s in Noble!!!”
Like I said, it’s pretty impressive if you are able to correctly identify all of the buildings named in that statement without loosing track of where they are heading.
Now, there are a LOT of buildings around here, but most of them are all in one place (Thank God). That place is better known as “The Quad” here at ISU.
It is really interesting to see all of the different buildings and how some of them were not meant for the middle of this campus, but of course people make mistakes.
I’m going to make a note right now about the school.
There are 20,000 people at ISU, and it seems that close to 2/3 of them are all from the Chicago area or surrounding suburbs.
I know that this doesn’t seem like a big deal, but when you get an entire floor of them and then throw in a small-town girl like my roommate and I, well, it gets a little confusing with all of the different “Northern” accents around here.
I also have a known fear of these accents combining to produce something so completely off-the-wall that my parents won’t even recognize it when I go home to visit.
Hopefully that won’t happen. :-)
I also got done with my first ’set’ of homework, and it’s off to classes again tomorrow!
Whoop!
Yes, I actually like my classes at college. :-)
