I remember a long time ago in 8th Grade at CEL (the grade school I went to) during band.
I can’t remember exactly which day in band this was, but I remember it perfectly for one thing.
* * *
I was bored that day, and of course my mind had been wandering around on certain things. One of them was my computer sitting at home, and I had just figured out something really great in HTML that I wanted to try on my webpage at that time.
Either way, I went to my homeroom for first hour, and then I went to Band.
Anyways I go into band, gather my clarinet together, and cross behind the teachers’ podium when Abby comes running in to the band room, looking wildly around.
Everyone is staring at her and me, as we are both framed at the front of the band. Abby comes running up to me yelling, “Yolanea! Yolanea!! Guess what?!”
I was stunned at the moment and for some reason seemed unable to speak, but finally I was able to answer with a simple, “What?”.
She grins real wide and says, “I got the Internet!”.
I was so happy for her since it was a pretty big deal to get the Internet after it hadn’t been around for that long anyways.
After that we both took our seats, but first I went with Abby to go and get her instrument (Baritone). We talked the whole way and I told her about my website and bookmarking on the Internet - It was a magical moment.

I don’t know what made me post about this moment in my life, nor why would I remember such a thing for years to come.
All that matters I guess is that the Internet wasn’t really “popular” when I was in 7th Grade and lower. But…what did we do for fun?
Frankly I can’t remember, and at this time in my life I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to live without the Internet.
What made me think of this certain memory is my family and I were talking during dinner (imagine that), and I asked my mom what she did for fun when she was a little girl, and she told me she went skating and hung out with her friends. When I asked her what she did without a computer she said that she read a lot and went outside a lot during the summers. Then we were talking about electronics and I told her that I couldn’t believe how she lived without a computer and the Internet. Then I remembered this memory about Abby and I and I told it to my mother. :-)
So there you have it. Another boring edition of Yolanea’s Blog.
Better yet, why don’t you just skip the other entries and go over to the blog that matters. ;-)
Okay, I’m bored, and I want to write in my other blog anyways.
Later!
