Broken Sensor

So I get into my building, Manchester, today after a long day at work. I only had one class today, so my bookbag is almost empty. Not wanting to waste any time, I rush straight to the elevators. I see one with the doors starting to close.

Most of the time, freshman don’t realize that if you walk into the elevator when the doors are closing, the sensors will trigger and the doors will open again to let the person in and whomever wants to be in the elevator as well.

I see a few freshman now, hanging back as if to wait for another elevator. After noting that the other two elevators are on floors 15 and 14, respectively, I decide to go into this elevator, even though it looks rather full…

I slip through the crack that is quickly closing, but instead of the doors opening up, they keep on closing…

The feeling of success is only felt for about 2 seconds.

“ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” I yell, as an invisible force is trying to suck me back out of the elevator.

“My bookbag!” I gasp, as the elevator tries to tear my arms off and leave my bookbag behind.

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

The elevator starts, wanting to close the doors. Those doors are really strong, and the elevator has a dual-door system. One on each floor, and one for the elevator, in which both open and close simultaneously.

“Press the…door…open button!!” I scream at the person standing closest to the panel of buttons. She looks at the buttons in confusion.

“Oh god just let the bookbag RIP!” I yell to no one in particular, trying to crane my neck to see if it was ripping. My arms are really starting to hurt now.

“Help!” Someone else yells, trying to pry open the doors manually. I’m suffocating now, with my arms pinned against the elevator; my chest feels constricted.

“Which button is it…?” The person nearest to the panel of buttons yells frantically, looking up and down. The elevator is buzzing now, and I swear it is getting louder and louder.

“BELOW THE NUMBER 1 BUTTON!!” I yell at her. My arms are starting to get numb; I can vaguely feel people on the other side of the elevator doors pushing my bookbag through…

She quickly presses the button, and the pressure on my arms lessens immediately.

“GAH!” I scream as I fly, face-forward, into the people on the elevator.

“Are you okay?” The guy who was trying to force open the doors asked. I bend over, gasping for breath.

“Y-yeah,” I gasp, shaking all over. I take off my bookbag, and I look up to see a small crowd is standing, waiting for another elevator. They are all staring at me. Most of them are wide-eyed.

My bookbag is still in one piece, but all of the blood is rushing back into my arms and they are hurting a lot now.

“Seven…seventeen please,” I tell the girl standing next to the panel of buttons, clutching my arms in pain. She quickly presses my floor, and the doors swing shut smoothly. Now the elevator is stone-quiet; everyone staring in my direction.

“I…I guess the sensors are broken in this elevator, ‘eh?” The freshman by the button panel says, trying to lighten the mood in the elevator.

“Yeah, I guess so,” I say, smiling vaguely as I wipe elevator-dust off of my bookbag and thinking of the bottle of Advil in my room.

Tests Are Annoying

REALLY.

My ITK 254 test didn’t go so bad yesterday, I was a little scared for the multiple choice. It was so detailed and she was asking about such specific things!

However, I was almost VERY late to my last test of that day, ITK 178. I practically RAN to class because I was already running fairly late. When I rushed into class, breathing like a winded rhinocerous, Dr. Lim was smiling at me. I looked at my chair, and to my surprise a test was sitting there, while all the others were already scribbling away.

Oh and this was the end of my day:

I went into Kevin’s room looking for him just to see what was up, but he wasn’t there. He came in my room about a half-hour later.

Kevin: “Hey you wanted me?”
Me: “Yeah I was just seeing what’s up.”
Kevin: “Oh, well that doesn’t make me feel special.”
Me: “Wait, it doesn’t?”
Kevin: “Yeah because I feel special when people need me to help them with something.”

So he started my program for me. And finished it.

Hey I wasn’t going to stop him! ;-)

Either way, so yeah that was great - it’s not like the Assignment was really that hard in Java - and when it comes to programming, Kevin is a GENIUS. Plus I asked him to explain to me EXACTLY what he did so that I would know for the future - Duh! :-)

Wow that was a random entry - time for bed!
