I’m walking through the quad, going back to the dorm from work. The sun has just started setting. It’s my favorite time of day, when all of the colors of the quad light up and cast colors around everywhere.
“Jillian!” I hear someone yell; it sounds like Ray. I stop promptly, putting away my cellphone. I was just about to call Lauren to see if she wanted to get dinner. I turn around. There is a class just letting out of Fell Hall - I don’t see anyone I know.
Now the quad is filling up with people - lots of classes are getting out at this time I guess…
“You are looking the wrong way!” Ray’s voice floats above the crowd again. I start backtracking to find him. He seemed so close, but then again it is really windy and I am really tired anyways…? Now I completely forget about Lauren and asking her to dinner.
“Must be the wind,” I say as the crowd picks up around me, and I’m thrown into a jumble of students going the other way, back to my dorm. I flow with them, falling into step perfectly.
“Jillian - stop, wait up!”
I stop so suddenly that I cause many people to jump into the grass to keep from running me down. Several turn their heads, casting me evil glances - and rightly so.
I spin around, grinning, expecting to see someone I know. The quad is thinning out now, and I see only a few people milling around in front of Fell Hall, smoking. I look down towards Edwards hall - there is a couple holding hands, walking away from me.
“RAY!” I turn my head the other way and yell towards the College of Business building.
No answer.
“RAY STOP IT AND COME OUT!” I yell angrily, causing a passer-by to look at me in alarm.
“My name is Jillian,” A girl says suddenly to my right. I look towards the trees, and there is a girl standing right beside me.
“WHOLLY CRAP!” I yell, stumbling back a few steps, my cellphone arm raised as if to attack.
“My name is Jillian,” The girl repeats.
“Okay so what!” I yell angrily - she startled me! I stuff my cellphone arm into my pocket, realizing how ridiculous I look.
“Isn’t that your name as well?” She says calmly. I ignore her and start fast-walking towards my dorm, casting occasional glances over my shoulder. Suddenly she is in perfect stride, right in front of me!
“STOP THAT!” I yell, jumping slightly. How did she get from way behind me to all of a sudden right in front of me?!
“Isn’t your name Jillian?” She repeats insistently.
“Yes, yes my name is Jillian - Please leave alone!” I plead, trotting around her and heading towards my dorm at top speed. I pass by Stevenson in the matter of seconds.
“That’s a stupid name,” The girl says, snorting in a mean way. I’m not mad or upset, I just keep walking, staring straight ahead.
“Time to wake up and smell the coffee!” She cackles beside me. I just stop talking and I keep walking.
“GET UP ASSHOLE!!” She yells suddenly
“What?!” I say, stopping in mid-stride and turning towards her. She is freaking me out!
“Your name is for dumb-asses only. Your clothing is gay. You don’t get good grades. It’s time to wake the hell up!” She says angrily, pushing me.
“Hey, stop it!”
“You are PATHETIC!” She yells. I don’t even know this girl!!
“I think you should wake the hell up and get out of my face!” I yell back to her. I can take her - she shorter than I am, although she did push me hard…
I eye her for a few minutes. Instead of picking a fight, I just walk away.
“You really are pathetic, aren’t you? FIGHT BACK!! Why won’t you fight me?” She yells, grabbing my arm and spinning me around.
“Because I don’t KNOW you!”
“Yes you do; you know me - I’m JILLIAN!!” She yells, and pushes me hard. I stumble backwards, about ready to fall into the street…
I jump myself awake.
I’m laying face-down on my bed, my laptop open to the article I was reading for class tomorrow. It’s 9:17PM.
So weird - I haven’t been feeling well the past few days - I left work early today so that I could go home and pass out on my bed. Oh what fun!
