The Results Are In…

So I didn’t do so bad this semester when it comes to grades. They actually came out a few days ago but between sleep and work - well, I haven’t had time for much else. ;-)

As usual.

As it ends up, I actually pulled a 94 percent on my final in a class I thought I was sure to fail - ITK 261. That grade was so good it actually pulled my final grade up to a “B” in the end. Whoo hoo! :-)

I was a little disappointed in my final grade in economics, a C - but it came as no surprise since I had a C before the final and I needed a miracle to get a “B” - I ended up with the “C” in the class without taking the final.

In my Politics class I found out I got an 87 percent on my comprehensive final (the best final grade I received this semester) but it wasn’t enough to pull me up to a B so I e-mailed him asking him nicely for a B and I got it. :-)

My ITK 191 class I got an A - surprise, surprise. Since it is only worth 1 hour it only helped my GPA…none at all. Damn.

Finally, in my cognitive science class (drum roll please) I got a “C”. Go figure. I got a “D” on the first test and he didn’t post any other grades online or tell anyone what their grade was or what he was going to do about the grades. No warning - just the grade at the end. Ahhhh ISU. Joy.

I guess you can say the result from this semester is merely a shoulder shrug at best. It wasn’t my worst semester, but it obviously wasn’t my best one either. My GPA is down to 2.8 - Argh.

At least I can continue to be in the classes I have set for next semester instead of playing musical classes and signing up for ITK 261 ASAP. Horrah for passing that class!! :-)

Learning

So, it’s done. I’ve finally switched over the Development Team from my old job on the Tech Team. Horrah!

Everyone keeps on asking me what it’s like in the Development Team cube. Jason tells me how much more boring it is going to be before I go over there.

“They don’t talk” Jason says in his explanation, and then pretends to be hunched over a computer keyboard, hacking away frantically. “That’s what they do all day.”

I don’t know, I wasn’t really looking forward to turning into a true computer geek, but then again, I think I needed something more oriented towards my major – rather than dealing with something that is completely opposite of my major.

I love to learn.

I think that this is what became the problem after awhile on the Tech Team. My learning process just…halted. It’s not that I knew everything about that job, it was just that I felt I had reached a plateau so to speak. I didn’t feel I was learning as much as when I started.

The eagerness to learn was gone, I guess you can say, for after awhile there was really nothing else to ‘learn’ and more of just ‘doing’ or ‘helping’. Maybe it was because when I started that job, it was a new environment and a new place and, being myself, I wanted to learn everything and anything about the job as fast as possible.

Maybe I received all of the information too fast.

Today, Roy, a new coworker who has also just started on the Development Team, informs me that it took him awhile to learn this new thing that I have to be learning called ”Fusebox” and PHP, which is a programming language for websites.

Mixed in with all of this, I am also messing around with Mambo as well. It’s a very interesting piece of software that one installs to use to create a blog-like website.

It has taken a bit, but I’m starting to understand it all. Roy, sensing my immediate anxiety because he is already way ahead of me when it comes to knowing PHP and Fusebox, said, “Don’t worry, just take your time and you’ll get it.”

I hope so, too.
