Strawberry Chapstick

Filed under Dorm Life, Manchester //

Ah, the joy of laundry…

So last night I went to do laundry, right? And everything was going perfectly. I got the exact dryer that works really well, and I only used 2.50 total for my laundry. (1 dollar per washer and then 50 cents to dry)

I’m taking out my clothes and folding them from the dryer, and I start to see pink spots on some of my white clothes an one on a new shirt my parents got for me while they were in Vegas (It’s a “Margaritaville” t-shirt).

And everything smells like strawberries.

I dig to the bottom of my giant, steaming hot laundry pile and notice a chapstick container at the bottom. I pick it up and pop open the lid.

It’s melted.

I turn it upside down in the trash can and liquid chapstick pours out.

Now all of my laundry smells like strawberry chapstick, and some of it even has pink dots on it from the melted chapstick. I conclude that I must have left it in my jeans pocket - Argh.

Anddd I didn’t have enough quarters on me to re-wash my laundry, so now I’m stuck with most of my whites looking like I spilled strawberry juice on them.

Not to mention most of my clothing smelling like cooked strawberries.

Ah, the joy of dorm life.

Lesson of the Day: Check all jean pockets before drying.

Thinking

Filed under Apartment Stuff, My Future, Randomness //

God my mind is in about 1,000 different places at once - I don’t think I would be able to concentrate on homework even if I tried. Maybe writing about it will help…

So let me bring you up to speed from my cryptic and vague posts:

I have been thinking about moving out of the dorms. I mean they are okay, but my floor this year is just annoying the crap out of me.

For example: last night I woke up at 4AM because I had to use the restroom, so I stumble out into the hallway and shield my eyes from the bright light (my room is completely dark) and see a bunch of people crowded in the hallway yelling to one another and laughing very loudly. They were obviously all drunk.

As I stumble down the hallway towards the bathroom, I look into a neighbor’s room and see her passed out on her floor, the door wide open. Since I’m a nice person, I pulled the door shut just in case an RA were to walk by or whatever.

And I mean it’s not just my floor, it is also the dorm food, etc - I am just getting sick of it. I mean I know that I’m RIGHT on campus and so close by to all of my classes, but at this point is that all I’m seeing as being ‘good’ for living in the dorms?

I want out.

A girl named Neil is looking for a subleaser for her apartment for next semester (Spring 2007). Since I am a Junior, I am able to move out of the dorms whenever I want (You are just required to live in the dorms for two years here at ISU - which I have already completed).

Anyways, I went to her apartment to see what it was like this morning. She lives right by campus, which is where I want to be. I would probably move in either at the end of December or the beginning of January, depending on when Neil moves out.

The apartment she is in is a four-bedroom apartment, meaning she has three roommates. I only met one when I went there this morning (and then Neil, of course whom I had already known). I can’t remember that roommates’ name now but she was very nice.

They are all very clean and apparently, one of her roommates is married and has a kid in St Louis whom she goes and sees every weekend so she is never home. Neil said that they are all very studious when it comes to classes and like the quiet of the apartment, (I kept telling Neil how quiet it is compared to the dorms). Then there is the final roommate who doesn’t speak very good English and doesn’t go to ISU, so she is hardly in the apartment as well.

I am signing the contract on Tuesday, and I have to send a letter into the University Housing Services here in order to cancel my contract soon as well.

Things are falling into place.

Speaking of cancelling contracts, UHS (University Housing Services here at ISU) are charging me 250 bucks to CANCEL my contract - non-refundable fee. Joy. Although I am very willing to pay it in order to get out of the dorms…

The apartment is a nice, typical college apartment - each girl (there are four girls living in the apartment in case you forgot…) gets their own room, and although there is only one bathroom they are all very clean and they all worked it out so that they can share it. The apartment has a very largeee living room, where Neil has her TV, which she will be taking home obviously when she leaves.

I will probably store my stuff in the apartment from when I move out of the dorms (which will be early December) until Neil moves out (which is late December/early January) that way I don’t have to move everything back into my parents’ house and then back out again - that would just be a huge hassle.

For now, my thoughts have run out -
