My roommate had a bamboo plant that she planted in soil. However, after several days and the plants general refusal to grow because our carpet doesn’t match or something, the plant dried up and all that was left was one green stub.
She took it back to the nursery, whom told her that she should not have bamboo in soil, but instead in rocks and filled with water all the time. They broke off the healthy piece of bamboo and she put it into rocks and filled the cup with water.
She had it in the windowsill, but after looking up on the Internets how to care for those plants, it said not to keep it in direct sunlight because it might become dried up.
I asked Rochelle if I could care for the plant, and she said yes. The nursery people told her to keep track of how it does in a week, and to see if it gets better. Since I’m not a plant expert and I have a very bad memory, I decided to take a picture of the plant every day and then look back to see how I did.
Monday, 9/10

First day I received plant, and all pictures are taken at night -
Tuesday, 9/11

One of the leaves is almost complete dried up, and yes, those socks are clean.
Wednesday, 9/12

Leaf number 2 pretty much dried up overnight - no idea how that happened…
Thursday, 9/13

Pretty much the same as Wednesday, which is probably the only glimmer of hope in this entire escapade.
Today, Friday - 9/14

Yeah, it pretty much DIED. As you can kind of see the stem literally snapped in two and the plant is just dangling on the cup, part of the root is pulled out of the rocks as well. I tried to smash it back in there but there is no repairing the stem.
I’m probably going to hell for this aren’t I.
