Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Filed under My Future, Personal, Thinking //

Although everyone is complaining about it, you can still see the underlying excitement. The adrenaline rush that it takes just to log into the system. Then comes the questions. Will it work today or will it not work today? Are you taking this class? Can you come into this same class with me?

No matter where I go, it’s all about registration.

I feel like I’m missing out on a big piece of conversation. As everyone around me complains of their schedule for next semester and talks in hushed voices about which instructor is good or bad, my registration date opened up back near the middle of March and I did not register for classes for the first time in my college career.

Then, it dawned on me.

My parents are looking for a laptop and Dell is having a huge spring sale!

Actually, that was the first thing to dawn on me, but the second thing was: I am GRADUATING IN A MONTH! I really felt like it became final when I was in a group meeting for my Marketing class. We were talking about when to have the next group meeting and I said, “Well since this is my last semester I have a lot of group projects so Monday and Wednesday works best for me.”

Dead. Silence. followed that statement. I felt like everyone was having a quick moment of silence for me.

“You are graduating this semester?” A younger girl in my group says blankly after the awkward silence passed.

“Yeah, in May…” I say, shrugging. I guess what I meant was

OMGWTFBBQLOL!!!!1111ONEONE I’m graduating -

ISU: New and Improved (with Herpes)

Filed under On Campus, Playing Around, Randomness //

“How many days until graduation?” Lauren asks me this question on a weekly basis.

“Thirty-three days,” I answer without hesitation.  She turns to stare at me.

“Not that I’m counting or anything,” I add, shrugging.

“Is it just me or are the freshman getting smaller?”  Lauren says as we come up on a group of prospective students being led like cattle around the campus.  An overly-cheery student worker wearing a bright red shirt leads the way, trying to keep the straying cattle in track by waving his arms like a windmill.

“You know what I’ve always wanted to do?”  I say, looking towards the group of prospective students, my eyes glazed over.

“What’s that?”

“I think it would be entertaining to go by a group of those people one time and say in a really loud, carrying voice: MAN THERE’S A LOT OF HERPES AROUND HERE!”  I say, looking around at the group behind us.  Unfortunately they are already halfway up the hill and didn’t hear me.

“That’s so bad…” Lauren says, laughing all the same.
